Matt started skiing more than 35 years ago back in Scotland as a child and developed a love for the sport. In 2000 he started working at Killington, VT in the US as a ski instructor and that summer, started teaching skiing at Mt. Hotham ski area in Australia. He taught for 3 winters in Killington and then had a winter in Europe in 2004 teaching in Switzerland, Italy and Austria. That is where he started his first forays into off-piste skiing. In 2005, Matt started teaching in Telluride, CO and started to develop his skills in the Bear Creek backcountry outside of the resort. He also started to explore the backcountry in Australia too.
