Why Ski Corralco?
Corralco Mountain & Ski Resort is located in the Malalcahuello National Reserve in southern Chile. The area is famous for its Araucanía trees and is surrounded by multiple volcanoes, so the views are quite stunning on a clear day. This resort is special because it’s built on the slopes of the Lonquimay Volcano (9,400ft) and it delivers a mix of groomers, off-piste terrain, and some of the best touring in South America. This area is off the beaten path for most Western skiers and boarders so you will enjoy an uncrowded, relaxed resort that is very snow-sure and friendly. This is the summertime training area of many international ski and snowboard teams, for a reason!
Corralco is Your Powder Playground
Corralco Mountain & Ski Resort serves up over 1,800 hectares of terrain with 29 runs, 6 ski lifts, and a snowpack that hits 9 meters a year—the most reliable in Chile. From perfectly groomed runs for cruising to seemingly endless sidecountry stashes, this place has something for every rider, beginner through expert. The high-speed quad chair (one of only two in Chile) keeps the laps rolling, while the huge backcountry offers insane potential for ski touring and splitboarding. If you’re ready to earn your turns, the summit of Lonquimay Volcano delivers killer views of the Andes and Araucanía forest with powder descents you’ll be talking about for years to come.
Experience Chilean Culture
About halfway through the trip, we’ll take some time out for a cultural day to see more of the area. On this day, we’ll visit Lonquimay, a mountain town known for its craft beer and really welcoming community. We’ll stop by the Lonquimay Brewery for lunch and beer tasting, then explore the town with a local guide.
Looking for a different kind of adventure? Swap a ski day for:
-
Snowshoeing in the Malalcahuello Reserve
-
A soak at the hot springs
-
Horseback riding through the mountains
-
A guided volcano climb
-
A photo safari
-
A bike ride through the area’s trails
These activities are optional and not included in the trip price, but they’re a killer way to mix things up and see the region from a new perspective. We’re more than happy to help arrange some of these outings for you!
Why Corralco Over Other South American Ski Destinations?
Corralco is wide-open runs, no lift lines, and powder stashes all to yourself. While the crowded spots further north are packed, you’ll be sharing the slopes here with international ski teams and your small crew. Reliable snow, tons of backcountry skiing access, and a laid-back vibe make Corralco one of our favorite spots for riding big terrain without the hassle. This is South America’s best-kept secret and we can’t wait to share it with you!
Who is This Trip Suitable For?
