Why Ski Gudauri Georgia?
Gudauri is one of the 5 highest altitude permanent settlements in Europe sitting at an impressive 2,200m (7,205ft) above sea level.
The ski area is about 120km north of the capital city, Tbilisi, in the Higher Caucasus Mountains. Gudauri is the largest and highest ski area in Georgia and features 34.8km (21.6m) of pistes with 15 lifts. The lifts are mostly high-speed, 6-person chairs and several gondolas so the lift system is fast and efficient. And ski passes are only $15 USD per day! The vertical is 1,998m – 3,267m (1,269m) or 6,555ft – 10,719ft (4,164ft).
Endless Terrain, Uncrowded Lines
With over 7,000 acres of skiable terrain, you’ll find quiet groomers, wide-open bowls, and side-country and backcountry lines for days. If you’re up for a bit of a climb, Lomisi monastery run should definitely be on your list. Three hours of skinning gets you amazing views, a chance to meet the monks at the monastery, and a powder-filled descent.
Most of the skiing is above treeline, but we can ski tour further down valley to find some amazing tree skiing.
The Cultural Experience You Didn’t Know You Needed
After a week on the mountain, you’ll spend the last two days in Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital where everything is within walking distance from our hotel. Close to the accommodation, you’ll find the Georgian Parliament building, the Museum of Georgia, Freedom Square, the City Walls and Gabriadze Puppet Theatre.
Just across the Mtkvari River via the Peace Bridge at Rike Park you can take the gondola up to the Narikala Fortress where the views of Tbilisi are amazing.
To wrap it all up, we recommend heading down into the Old Town and checking out the Sulphur Baths, Meidan Square (look for the underground Meidan market), and the Dry Bridge Market (there are some amazing paintings on display from local artists).
There’s so much to do and see here in Tbilisi, these will be a packed couple of days!
Choose Your Own Adventure
Gudauri is powder-sure thanks to storms rolling in from the Black Sea, dumping consistent snowfall over the Greater Caucasus.
Groups can choose from a guided experience where the focus is on finding as much untouched snow as possible. Hiking and touring will be necessary.
Guests can also choose from a skier or snowboarder improvement program to work on technique inbounds within the resort.
Who is This Trip Suitable For?
This trip is suitable for all intermediate to expert skiers and boarders.
If you’re comfortable on blue terrain, you’ll find plenty of quiet, groomed runs perfect for cruising and refining technique. Don’t miss the new north-facing run down to Kobi, where snow stays cold all day. As you progress, try groomed red runs or even black runs, and if you’re keen on off-piste, there’s ungroomed snow between the groomers.
For those at ease on groomed black runs with some shallow powder and tree-skiing experience, we’ll help you advance to the next level. We’ll guide you to in-bounds powder between runs, and if you have the right gear and training, take you touring into the side or backcountry. Expect touring introductions, avalanche safety training, and the fine-tuning of your powder technique.
If you’re confident on double diamond terrain, tight trees, and deep powder, Gudauri will be a paradise. We’ll lead you to endless fresh lines both in-bounds and beyond. For those willing to skin, countless additional options await inside and outside the resort. Full avalanche safety training is included.
*Guests can also choose from a skier or snowboarder improvement program to work on technique inbounds within the resort.
