Where Is Kyrgyzstan?

Kyrgyzstan, and its capital city Bishek, are tucked away in Central Asia’s Tien Shan Mountains, bordered by Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The Tien Shan Mountains, also referred to as the "Celestial Mountains," absolutely dominate the landscape of Kyrgyzstan. With peaks reaching over 7,000 meters above sea level, this range gets huge levels of annual snowfall and offers some of the most incredible backcountry skiing and freeride opportunities in the world.

Jyrgalan Valley Cat Skiing

Located in eastern Kyrgyzstan near Lake Issyk-Kul, the Jyrgalan Valley is our base for six days of cat skiing. This remote area is famous for its untouched powder, open bowls, and tree-lined runs and the lake-effect snow from Issyk-Kul (the 7th largest saltwater lake in the world) provides consistent, high-quality powder throughout the ski season.
It's a completely underrated ski destination that has yet to blow up, which means fewer crowds and more untouched terrain for us.

Karakol Ski Resort Slack Country

Before we hit the backcountry, we'll warm up at Karakol Ski Resort, the top ski spot in Kyrgyzstan at the base of the Tien Shan Mountain Range. Karakol has modern chairlifts and the easily accessible side country is incredible with views of Lake Issyk-Kul and the surrounding peaks. You can also opt for a second day here toward the end of the trip if you wish!

Experience the Culture

With such a special culture to explore, we made sure to design this trip with a strong cultural focus. During our time here, we'll have a very rare opportunity to visit a family of traditional Golden Eagle Hunters in the Suusamyr Valley to watch the ancient practice of eagle hunting. You will also have a chance to choose your own adventure on one of our last days of the trip with options like horseback riding, checking out historical sites, shooting at a local gun range, or skiing an extra day at the resort.

Why Choose Kyrgyzstan Over Other Ski Destinations?

With private cat skiing, the mountains are virtually yours alone. Plus, Kyrgyzstan is more affordable than more popular slopes—you get a world-class ski trip at a fraction of the cost compared to Western destinations.
