Exciting changes in store for the Gulmarg Gondola in 2016……..
Well, it’s about time I started to post on our Blog! With that in mind, we are excited to announce that the Gulmarg Gondola is going to be receiving a much-needed update for the 2015/16 ski season. The J&K State Cable Car Corporation (JKSCCC) will be replacing all 34 of the old cabins on Phase 2, with brand-new 6 people cabins made by M/S Pomagalski of France.
The new cabins will be a lot bigger than the old cabins and should offer the rider (especially skiers and boarders with bulky avalanche equipment) an increase in room and comfort. They will also have exterior racks for wider modern fat skis and snowboards, issues which had hampered the old design.
With an increase in space, hopefully they will be able to legitimately seat 6 people and this will increase the uphill capacity of the gondola, thus reducing waiting times. There is a lot to be excited about!
The new cabins are already in Gulmarg and will be operational sometime in September. There are plans to eventually replace all the cabins on Phase 1 as well, but there is not time-frame for the completion of that program, hopefully that will happen in the next couple of years.
This marks a historical change for Gulmarg and continues the resorts modernization and increases the appeal to Western skiers and boarders. Here’s a couple of photographs from Jeelani Rather, lead Kashmiri guide for The Adventure Project in Gulmarg, showing the new cabins on-site today……
We’ll keep you posted with any new updates!
