Come Ride with us in Chile this Summer! Last minute spots available…..

The Adventure Project is excited to announce a new program to ski in Chile this summer! We’ve been running programs to Gulmarg in the Indian Himalayas for 5 years now and now it’s time to expand our operation to new destinations. We are running two, two week trips down to the southern ski areas of Nevados de Chillan (8 nights) and Corralco (5 nights) this summer. Everything is planned and you will be well-looked after, all you have to do is meet us in Concepcion. The introductory price for this year will be $3,495 USD per person (based on 6 people in the group, reduced by nearly $1,500). Chile has been getting hammered with snow and it  doesn’t look like stopping. This is definitely the season to head south. Read on for more details……

Overview

We will have 2 sessions on offer: Session 1 is the 12th August to the 26th August 2015 and Session 2 is the 26th August to the 9th September. You will need to fly from Santiago to Concepcion, on those start dates. We will meet you at the airport and then the transportation is organized to take us to our accommodation in Las Trancas (staying in the Cabanas los Hualles). We have 8 nights and 7 days of riding in Nevados de Chillan, then we head even further south to Malalcahuello and the resort of Corralco. We have 5 nights staying at Chile Wild in Malalcahuello and 4 days of riding in Corralco. Then we jump on the bus and head back to Concepcion, for our last night together in Chile.

The Resorts

We’ve chosen 2 resorts to start our program at; Nevados de Chillan and Corralco. Nevados is approximately 400km’s south of Santiago and Corralco is another 300km’s further south. We have chosen these 2 resorts due to their excellent in-bounds terrain and also their easily accessible backcountry. These resorts tend to be a little quieter than the more northern resorts closer to Santiago and we believe you will get a more authentic Chilean experience. The southern resorts statistically get the most snow and have the longest seasons.

If you want to see some footage of Nevados and Corralco, then check out this great video that Bomb Snow TV filmed last season. It’s epic! The Nevados/Corralco sections start at the 2:08 minute mark……

The Program

It’s a 14 day program with 11 actual days on snow, with the other 3 being travel days. Your guides will travel with you the whole time so you will be well looked after. Our goal is to show you as much of the mountains as possible (whether that’s in-bounds or out of bounds) and to help immerse you in the Chilean culture. You get to meet the locals and try the local food. Every day on the mountain we can be working on technique (Matt and his team are all fully certified ski instructors as well) and ski improvement. If you want to go into the backcountry (you will need avi safety gear and touring equipment, not provided), we will put you through a comprehensive avalanche safety training program at the start of the trip and guide you out of the resorts. If you’ve never been into the backcountry before and want to learn how, then this program will work also well for you as we will run through all the basics, from intensive beacon practice, probing, strategic shoveling to snowpack analysis to following protocols for traveling in potential avalanche terrain.

The Clients

We can take up to 6 guests per group, lead by 2 guides. You need to be a strong skier, minimum advanced to expert level, able to handle double diamond terrain in all conditions. If you want to go into the backcountry with us, then you will need avalanche safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe, pack) and touring gear (fatter skis with touring bindings and skins). We can take snowboarders too, but as none of our guides are certified snowboard instructors as well, then you won’t receive any feedback on your riding like we can do for the skiers. We are happy to guide you and train you in backcountry safety skills.

The Guides

We couldn’t run this program without great guides. All our guides are fully-certified ski instructors as well, so if you want to work on technique during your stay, we can do that. If you’d rather just explore the mountains, then we can just do that, or we can do a little bit of both, it’s up to the group what they would like to do.

Matt Appleford – I am the owner and founder of The Adventure Project. I have been running our freeride camps to Gulmarg, a backcountry ski area in the Indian Himalayas since 2011. It is time to expand our list of destinations and I have put together a pretty sweet program in Chile. It’s taken more than 4 weeks to put together all the logistics and I’m really excited with the offering.

Ignacio Aedo – Iggy is Chilean and lives in Telluride, CO. He’s a ski instructor by trade (PSIA full-cert) and grew up skiing in Nevados de Chillan and Corralco. He knows the mountains extremely well and speaks Spanish fluently. Without his help, we would not have been able to put this program together!

Derek Lennon – Derek is from Big Sky, MT and is a guide and ski instructor (PSIA full-cert). He worked for several years as the lead guide and mountain manager at El Arpa cat skiing in northern Chile. He has skied in Chile for many years and also speaks Spanish.
